Meet the Principal

Hello. My name is Cathy Russel and I am the principal at Wixom Elementary.  I had been a teacher at Wixom Elementary for sixteen years before becoming the principal. I know our school community well and I care deeply about our students, families, and staff. 

I have always held Wixom Elementary very near and dear to my heart. I have not only been a teacher at Wixom, but I was also a parent at the school before I became a teacher. 

I received my bachelor’s degree and master’s degree both from the University of Michigan, my teaching certificate from Madonna University, and my Education Specialist degree in Leadership from Oakland University.  I am also a Galileo Leadership program graduate. Before I became a teacher, I worked as a research scientist in the field of satellite and computer technology. While I didn't start my career in education, I knew when I had transitioned into education that I had found my true passion.

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with husband and my three sons. I also enjoy reading and staying current with best practices in education and I feel that I will always be a life-long learner.

I work under the philosophy that everything we do in our school should be done with the best interest of our students in mind. I am determined to support every child, every day at Wixom Elementary and I will bring the energy, enthusiasm, and thoughtfulness needed to continue to make Wixom Elementary an exemplary school.
