Welcome to Wixom Elementary!

Wixom Elementary provides a kind and supportive environment that prepares students to be well-rounded critical thinkers who will make a positive impact on the world.Wixom Elementary has an enrollment of approximately 420 students in grades K-5. Wixom also houses 2 Great Start Readiness Programs (GSRP) classrooms and a tuition-based preschool.

Wixom Elementary has over 60 staff members, which include classroom teachers, special education staff, paraprofessionals, and other support staff. Our teachers and staff are a dedicated group of educators who work hard using current best practices to ensure that all of our students grow both academically and social-emotionally.

Wixom Elementary is located in Wixom, Michigan and is in the southwest corner of the Walled Lake Consolidated School District. All students at Wixom Elementary reside in the City of Wixom. However, we happily also welcome students from other areas with our School of Choice program. Wixom Elementary students feed to Sarah G. Banks Middle School and Walled Lake Western High School.

With the support of the Wixom Elementary PTA and our families, we are continuing our journey to become a fully-implemented Second Step and Cultures of Thinking school. At our school, we promote critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, perseverance, and, most importantly, kindness. As our students are empowered as independent and self-sufficient thinkers and learners, their achievement continues to grow. Through the collaborative efforts of everyone in our Wixom family, we work to meet the needs of every child, every day.

Our current building was originally built in the 1940’s with several additions occurring throughout the years. Along with security upgrades, our classrooms were also equipped with updated technology including interactive whiteboards, sound systems in each classroom, and dedicated grade-level Chromebook carts for classroom use. In 2020, we had another major upgrade to our school including new classroom cabinetry and furniture, new lighting and ceilings in every room, a new roof, and a completely remodeled media center and learning lab.

Academically, Wixom Elementary and Walled Lake Consolidated Schools provide a rigorous curriculum across all grades and subject areas.  Our core beliefs about highly effective teaching and learning include:

• Building positive relationships within a supportive classroom community
• Relevant, engaging lessons that demonstrate the effective use of the formative assessment process
• Strategic integration of instructional technology
• Research-supported grading practices and assessments that reflect the belief that all students can demonstrate mastery with appropriate time and support adherence to a standards-aligned curriculum
